ReplyDeletehey guys i forgot to mention; last night when i was leaving work as i headed to my car i passed by a dumpster(right behind the whiskey).. some dude was tossing cans out of it like crazy. there was well over 200 cans scattered around the alley. as i got closer he jumped out and i talked to him. asked him how he was doing small talk that kind of stuff. He was kinda looped out on something but asked a few questions inadvertently about our project. i asked him about being on the street. not how he got there.. just how it was. he said it was decent usually. some nights get pretty cold but he usually is up all night and sleeps during the day. easier to find warm places to sleep in the day. or he does hit up the shelters in the winter. he was pretty excited about all the cans he scored from the wiskey garbage bin and said thats what he like the most. finding hidden treasures.. he apparently spent about an hour (but i didnt notice a watch on him) ripping through that garbage but had fun cause of everything he found.
he had no ambition to get off the street because life was fine for him. he usually has something to eat each day, caters to his "vices" or in his words "gets into some shit from time to time" (he didnt elaborate). and thats fine for him. Hes carefree and wouldnt have it any other way.
he said. "cant complain"
then he asked me for change, which i had none. and then appologized because he shouldnt expect something for nothing. he doesnt care if people pitty him and give him money but he wont ask for it. he said what pisses him off though is jerks who beg at traffic intersections holding "pathetic signs" he said "boo hoo you have such as sad story, go get a job you loser" I thought that was pretty hilarious.
And i did ask him how available stuff like schooling was for him if he wanted. he said the dropin center and mustard seed have some sort of classes but hes not sure about what.
